Repair / Compress Job

This option is used to either repair a corrupted Geoida job database, or to simply perform a database compression after deleting large amounts of data, to remove empty space and recover disk space. If a repair is not necessary, this step may be omitted by a No response when prompted if a repair is first required, to skip immediately to the compress stage.

On very rare occasions or in unusual circumstances, a job's database file jobname.GDB may become corrupted and error messages may be displayed advising the user to repair the database. This can occur if a power failure, power surge, or a system failure causes Geoida to shut down or hang unexpectedly.

If this occurs, it has become necessary to use this option to correct the errors and recover the uncorrupted record data.

This option attempts to validate all system tables and indexes, saves the recoverable record contents to a new file and renames the original database to jobname.~DB. There must be enough disk space for the copy to be made and the option fails if there is not enough space available. Un-recoverable data is discarded. The recovered database is also compacted to reduce wasted space.

After the option has been successfully executed, you can delete the original corrupted database file now named jobname.~DB if you wish.

The Repair / Compress Job option displays the Select job to Repair & Compress dialog box to choose the path and name of the job database to be repaired.
