Zoom Options

Zoom options generally control the extent and location of the window within which point and line data for the current job is displayed on the screen. It is important to remember that if a range of points has been specified and displayed in the option Zoom Point Range, then that point range remains effective for all zoom and pan operations (i.e., only points within the range specified will be displayed) unless Zoom Bounds is executed - Zoom Bounds resets the point number range for points displayed, to the maximum range of points in the job.

Note that the zoom pop-up menu is displayed if the right mouse button is clicked, from which zoom, pan and a small number of other options may be selected.

Zoom Bounds

This option displays the entire job within the display window. The extents of the job bounds are assessed whenever new points are added to the database or existing points are deleted, so the bounds (and hence the area zoomed by this option) may change numerous times as the job is being processed. If a point number range has previously been specified for display in the option Zoom Point Range, the Zoom Bounds option takes precedence and resets the point number range to display all points. On rare occasions it may be necessary to reset the bounds manually by executing the Reset (Fix) Bounds option (see Refresh/Review Options) - the necessity for this becomes apparent if Zoom Bounds will not display all data known to exist or if all data occupies only a small portion of the screen.

The keyboard shortcuts for this option are Ctrl + B or End.

Zoom In

This option is used to zoom inwards to display a smaller area of the job around the centre of the screen; i.e., it displays less data in the centre of the screen at nearly twice the scale of the current window. A zoom-in is prevented if the new window dimension in the east-west direction falls below 0.2m

The keyboard shortcuts for this option are Ctrl + I, Page Up or +, or click the middle mouse button or scroll-wheel.

Zoom Out

This option is used to zoom outwards to display a larger area of the job around the centre of the screen; i.e., it displays more data at about half the scale of the current window.

The keyboard shortcuts for this option are Ctrl + O, Page Down or -, or hold Ctrl and click the middle mouse button or scroll-wheel.

Zoom Window

This option allows the user to define a specific area to enlarge to fill the display. Use the mouse to locate opposite corners of the new window required, as prompted. The option remains active so that successive windows may be zoomed if required. The option is cancelled when the main menu is activated, the keyboard <Escape> button is pressed, or the right mouse button is clicked at any stage of the prompt sequence. A window that would have a dimension in the east-west direction of less than 0.2m cannot be zoomed; the smallest zoom-window will approximate natural scale 1:1.

The keyboard shortcut for this option is Ctrl + W.

Zoom Previous

Zoom Previous allows the user to redisplay the window that had been displayed immediately prior to the current window, if available.

The keyboard shortcuts for this option are Ctrl + V or Home.

Zoom Point Range

See Zoom Point Range for details of this option.

Pan

Use the Pan option to move the currently displayed data into a new position with respect to the display window. Follow the prompts for the first and second points to indicate the distance and direction of the relative movement required. The option remains active so that successive panning movements may be made if required. The option is cancelled when the main menu is activated, the keyboard <Escape> button is pressed, or the right mouse button is clicked at any stage of the prompt sequence.

The keyboard shortcut for this option is Ctrl + P.

In addition to the Pan function above, a new Instant Pan function is now provided. Instant Pan and the original Pan operate slightly differently, whereby Instant Pan is initiated simply by holding the left mouse button, drawing the required vector to the second point, and releasing the button to complete the pan movement.
